Getting here by boat

A sheltered bay, an early Greek marina, and the whole Inner Ionian to explore.

Paleros sits on one of the most sailing-friendly stretches of the Ionian. Its sheltered bay and marina — one of the first private marinas in Greece — draw sailboats throughout the year, and the calm, island-studded waters between the mainland and Lefkada are ideal for everything from a lazy afternoon afloat to a full island-hopping cruise. Whether you arrive by sea or simply want to spend a day on the water, this is a place that rewards both.

I.

Arriving under sail

For sailors, Paleros is a natural stop. The bay offers good shelter, the marina has capacity for a range of boats, and the town's tavernas and supplies are steps from the quay. It's well connected by sea to Lefkada, Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos and the wider Inner Ionian, making it an easy base or waypoint. Check current berthing availability and harbour contacts before you arrive, especially in peak summer.

II.

Rent a boat for the day

You don't need to be a sailor to get out on the water. Local operators rent small motorboats (some in a category that requires no licence), so you can potter to a quiet cove, anchor for a swim and a picnic, and be back for sundowners. It's one of the happiest ways to spend a day here — the sea is calm, the distances short, and the water astonishingly clear.

III.

Island cruises & day trips

Organised day cruises and sailing trips run to the Ionian islands and their hidden beaches — Meganisi's sea caves, the green islets of Kalamos and Kastos, and the coves around Lefkada. Many depart from nearby Nydri on Lefkada, a short drive away, with Paleros itself offering smaller-scale local trips. Bring sunscreen, a hat and a sense of unhurried time.
